Welcome to Term Three!!!

What a lot of fun we have been having in Room 2.
Here are some photos of some of the amazing things we saw, did, learnt and enjoyed from Term 1.

We finally had some big fat, healthy caterpillars ready to burst their skins and hang like the letter J.  A friend of Jaz's Mum, Katie came to the rescue!  She gave us some special plants in a special container that they loved.  Our very first caterpillars were tiny and kept falling down onto the carpet, making us feel pretty sad about that.  Even two caterpillars given to us by kind Ms Gargan next door, died.   We celebrated the arrival of the monarchs by making our own beautiful butterflies with paint and coloured cellophane.  Every day we added a circle on the wall to make it look like the very hungry caterpillar from the book by Eric Carle.  We did that to help us count up the days we had been at school during Term 1.  YIPPEE !!

This was our very first clever and colourful display for 2012.  It was right outside our door to greet visitors and to show them what COOL KIDS were inside !!!  We were learning how to make collage with pasting small bits of coloured paper together.  We used this method to create the initials of our first names.  It also helped us to get to know each other and start new friendships.
We have 16 boys and only 6 girls in our class !!  But Mrs B said that doesn't matter, as girls can do anything !!!  She likes to tease us.

Around Valentine's Day we were discussing special people in our lives - who were they and why they were special and what made them special.  We shared our ideas with a partner then started our writing.  The partners checked each other's draft piece of writing, said what they liked about it and gave them some new ideas of how they could make their writing better.  AWESOME ROOM 2 !!

Here is our circle of 22 new friends, plus some well thought out rules and routines for us to follow.  We all had to decide and agree what would make everyone feel happy and safe at school.   It is a good checklist to make sure we remember.  SPOT ON ROOM 2!!

WOW - Mrs B was blown away with our published books.  Here they are !!  We all became authors by describing the four stages in detail of the life cycle of a butterfly.  We knew exactly what to write about for each stage, as we watched it happen right before our eyes.   Our books were five pages long and had a title page.  Because we were writing about real facts we knew our books were non-fiction.  WAY TO GO !!!

Our first self- portraits for the year - IMPRESSIVE !!!  Many people came in and said how impressed they were with them and how they really looked just like us.  We took a lot of time looking at our eyes, nose, ears, lips, eyebrows, hair, eyelids and eyelashes.  We talked about their shape and colour and where they would fit properly on our face.  Good enough for a passport head and shoulders photo.  The boys are handsome and the girls are beautiful.

For numeracy we gathered information about what we liked doing at school and what colours we liked the best.  The results were displayed as Bar Graphs.  You can easily see that we love BLUE.  The red, green and yellow colours were even.  Later Mrs B put up a cupcake bar graph about our birthdays.  Each cupcake had our name on them and a candle and they were lined up in the months that we were born.  WE ARE SO SPECIAL AND UNIQUE !!!  Statistics was fun.

Tawa is the place we live in and Redwood School IS THE BEST.  Here are our cool houses and streets.  You can now see them outside Mrs Goodin's office.
